Residual effects of fertilizers applied to mine-spoiled soil at Amphoe Takua Pa Changwat Phangnga

Consisted of 3 treatments (control, NPK 15-15-15 and osmocote 14-14-14 at the rate of 312.50 kg/ha) with 4 replications. A series of periodical collection of surface soils (0-15 cm) and subsoils (15-30 cm) was carried out as follows: 1 day prior to fertilization, 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 12 weeks and 24 weeks after fertilizer application pH, organic matter, P, K, Ca, Mg and CEC such soils were analyzed. Height and diameter at braset height of 25 trees in each plot were also recorded. Insignificant differences both in terms of soil nutrients and tree growth. Soil pH was found to be decreased with time, trends of organic matter, P, K, Ca and Mg were slightly increased. Based on USDA standard, CEC of this mine-spoiled soil was rated as very low due to its sandy texture and low organic matter content. Second fertilizer application should be done within six months after the first fertilization. Reclamation of tin mine lands is a long-term time consuming process.
