Food crop production planning under certain situations in West Java province, Indonesia
1990
Widjatmiko
Province can at once maintain the rice self-sufficiency target and increase production of soyabean, peanuts and mungbean, which are important secondary food crops. Dry land rice and corn appear to be less profitable. Sweet potatoes and cassava as well, should be limited, because they are inferior and have a limited market. The most critical resource is land. Food crop prices should be maintained at the 1987 levels because the production of food crops in the optimum plan is sensitive to price change. Impact of price change on soyabean and peanut production shows how readily one crop can be substituted for another in areas planted. Increasing production of food crop production with and without government intervention situations should be followed through optimal production plan. For instance, without government's production target, soybean production should be promoted in all regions in West Java except in Banten, while peanut should be cultivated in Botabek and Cirebon only.
