Impacts of humidified rice whitening on the performance of a rice mill in terms of milled-rice recovery and milled-rice quality

Objectives of the study are to study the impacts of humidified rice whitening on the performance of A rice mill in term of milled-rice recovery and mulled rice quality as well as the economic value of the milled rice and rice-mill by-products. The experiment was divided into 5 different milling systems according to the acquired treatments which comprised of single and double whitening pass of ordinary milling systems, the system which had grain cooling prior to the next whitening pass, the system which used water in the last whitening pass and the system which used both grain cooling and water in the whitening process. There are significant differences in head rice recovery, rice recovery and milled rice quality. The maximum values were derived from the milling system which used both grain cooling and water in the whitening process. There are no significant differences in milled-rice moisture contents derived from various milling systems. However the maximum moisture content of bran was derived from the milling system which used water in the last whitening process with a value of 16.44 (Wet basis).
