Utilization of corn cob as ruminant feed
1988
Tipaya Singhalug
Nutrient components of corn cob were: protein, 1.94, ash, 1.32; in vitro dry matter digestibility, 34.09; Ca, 0.04; P, 0.05; Ma, 0.03 and K, 0.75 %. Dry mater of corn cob was disappearance when incubated in the rumen of a steer for 72 hour about 44.3 %. After fermented urea with molasses and NaoH with molasses found in vitro dry matter digestiblity, IUDMD and disappearance increased and decreased acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber. Urea treatment increased protein content, propionic acid and butyric aeid and decreased acetic acid. Urea or NaoH treated corn cob in 21 d. had a higher protein, IUDMD and dry matter disappearance than 14 d.
