The correlation between the number of microorganisms and dehydrogenase activity on the one hand and content of biogenic elements in soil on the other was studied at 27 locations in the Vojvodina Province (Yugoslavia). Dehydrogenase activity correlated with pH, organic carbon, total nitrogen and potassium. Azotobacter correlated with pH, organic carbon, and total nitrogen. Positive correlation also existed between dehydrogenase activity and Azotobacter. The number of actinomycetes positively correlated with the content of biogenic elements.
