Effect of iron deficiency on nutrient ratio changes in grapevine leaves

Grapevine (Cv. Riesling, 5BB rootstock) was planted in water culture (Hoagland's mineral solution) with Fe (as Fe-EDTA) and without Fe. During the experiment, which took three months, no chlorosis on grape leaves cultivated in solution without Fe appeared. These plants showed decrease of total Fe, Fe2+, K, and Mg. At the same time, increase of Ca was observed. A high negative correlation between the content of Fe2+ and Ca was established. The Fe2+ and K content also showed a negative correlation, while the relation between Fe2+ and Mg was not expressed as a significant relation. In Fe-deficient plants, the K:Ca ratio was lower, while the Fe (tot.) : Fe2+, K:Mg and Ca:Mg ratios were higher in comparison with the plants cultivated in complete solution.
