Nikolic, B. | Bojovic, S. (Institut za sumarstvo, Beograd (Yugoslavia))
This paper presents the first results of crossing some of the imported silkworm breeds in Yugoslav conditions, with emphasis on heterosis effect. Selection of combinations for crossing was done according to biological characteristics of breeds and time overlaps of their reproductive cycles a prerequisite of successful hybridization. The achieved results of establishing genetic benefit in hybrid progeny justify the research of hybrid power, since good parental characteristics are no guarantee of making heterosis in progeny. The most perspective is hybrid combination Gergana 1 x Kom. 1, and then Gergana 2 x Kom. 2 and control hybrid Hesa 2 x Hebar 2.
