Antimutagenic activity of several extracts of cultivated and wild population of sage (Salvia officinalis L.) was investigated using the Escherichia coli tester strains. The reduction of UV-induced mutation frequency was observed with ethanolic extract of the cultivated sage when tested with Escherichia coli repair proficient strain. In strains which were defective in repair of mismatched bases the tested estracts did not change the frequency of spontaneous mutations.
