The cultivar (variety) as measure of [sugar beet] protection to rhizomania

It was obtained new hybrid combinations which shown, according to their productivity, growth in conditions of medium strong rhizomany attack, the same level of productivity as European tolerant cultivars and even comparable to the most rhizomany tolerant Dona cultivar. In 1990 those were the hybrids: TR 4420, TR 6621, TR 446, TR 4421, TR 4620 1nd TR 46, and in 1991: ALH 4R, ALH 5R, ALH 15R, ALH 19R and ALH 20R. Visual breeding criteria, with the following of sugar content and mineral matters in roots and the selection on infected field, gave good results in creating new hybrids tolerant to rhizomania. Sugar beet breeding work at Aleksinac Station (Serbia, Yugoslavia) for rhizomany tolerance attained the level of European selections.
