We used wide genetic variability for the selection, as it decreases the possibility for pathogen adaptation and production of new parasite races. Due to it, domestic populations, inbred lines and hybrids of maize were introduced into the program of the research. As Helminthosporium carbonum is a typical parasite of seed, we also studied its effect on seed yield and quality. The study comprised the analysis of the parasite effect on leaf, stem and cob of the studied genotypes, decrease of green leaf area, seed yield after the inoculation of leaf, stem and cob as well as the effect of parasite on protein content, oil content and germination rate of maize seed.
