Role of some adjuvants in influencing the efficacy of fungicides on chocolate spot (Botrytis fabae) on broad bean

Four fungicides sprayed at half normal application rate, were evaluated for their activity against Botrytis fabae on agar plate and on broad bean leaves when mixed with adjuvants. The fungicides used were: iprodione, vinclozolin, benomyl and carbendazim. Eight different tank mix adjuvants were used in combination with the tested fungicides: Atplus 201 (Polyoxyethylene hexitan ester), SCS 3592 (alkylpolysaccharide based,), SCS 2665 (alkylpolysaccharide based), Atplus 469 (alkylpolysaccharide based), Atplus 470 (blend of alkylpolysaccharide and silicone surfactant), Atlas G-5411 (ethercarboxylate), SCS 2660 (methyllaurate based) and SCS 2662 (methyloleate based). The activity of the fungicides increased with all adjuvants tested. Iprodione and vinclozolin were the best fungicides when used in combination with the adjuvants to control Botrytis fabae on agar plate and on chocolate spot of broad bean leaves. The best activity increase was achieved by combining the fungicides with SCS 2665 and Atlas G-5411. There is obviously a close correlation between the adjuvant concentrations and their effectiveness in both treatments on agar plate and on bean leaves. These studies must lead to a clear prediction for the application of the adjuvants with the fungicides to control chocolate leaf spot on broad bean in the field.
