[Nutritive value of Italian and hybrid ryegrass varieties]

27 varieties of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. var. italicum Beck.) and 13 varieties of hybrid ryegrass (Lolium Hybridum Hausskn.) were used in a field experiment to test varietal influence on the content of digestible organic matter of forage. The effect of variety on digestibility was greater in hybrid ryegrass than in Italian ryegrass. This difference was mostly due to the higher digestibility of tetraploid hybrid ryegrass in comparison with the diploid hybrid ryegrass. During first and second regrowth hybrid ryegrass was slightly more digestible than Italian ryegrass
