Effect of uniconazole on vigorous seedling growth and seed yield of rape

Uniconazole at various concentrations on rape, at the three-leaf stage, were examined for physiological and yield effects. Foliar sprays of 10, 25 and 50 mg/L significantly reduced seedling height, increased the width of main stem, number of green leaves, and total dry weight at transplanting. Leaf chlorophyll content, superoxide dismutase and catalase activities, root oxidizability, and ethylene production were also increased. Additionally, the number of branches and pods per plant were increased, and a 7.4 per cent and 8.5 per cent increase of seed yield over the controls was observed with treatments at 10 and 25 mg/L uniconazole, respectively. No significant effects from uniconazole were observed on plant maturity, on the seed oil content, or the erucic acid and glucosinolate content.
