Soil moisture regime under improved vertisols technology

Four different land forms, namely Cambered Bed, Ethiopian Bed, Ridge and Furrow, and Flat land were under observation at Agricultural Research Station, Kpong [Ghana] during the 1993 major rainy season. Weekly determination of soil moisture was carried out on all the land forms, at three different depths (0-15 cm, 15-30 cm and 30-45 cm). Plant height and development of cowpea crop were also noted for each land form. The various land forms affect significantly the distribution of moisture through the vertisols. The best results were obtained on Cambered Bed, followed by Etiopian Bed. Plants on both land forms grew taller and produced more pods than the ones grown on ridges and flat land
