Phage restriction and aspecific hybridization by small plasmid in Salmonella enteritidis

Plasmid content of 78 Salmonella enteritidis strains was determined and DNA-hybridization was performed with a gene probe of E. coli heat-stable enterotoxin STb consisting of 460 bp. A small (2.5-4.5 Md) plasmid was present in the majority of strains of phage type (PT) 1b, 1c, 6b and 6c strains besides the serotype-specific (38 Md) plasmid
