Capillar GC analysis of Artemisia essential oils

The plant Artemisia maritima L. (belong to the family of asteraceae) has been grown in the improvement garden in Budaors. The perennial stand has been selected in the first years in function of essential oil content, in 1992 the authors have defined by capillary GC analyses the chemical characteristics of the oil coming from individual plants containing more than 0.34 percent essential oil. They have identified eucalyptol, linalool, borneol, methil chavicol, beta-pinen and beta-cubeben as components in divers quantities. 43 clones with oil content varying between 0,37-0,72 percent have been taken out. More than 50 percent of the individuals had contained high linalool content (60-85 percent). The decreasing linalool contents were accompanied with increasing eucalyptol contents (10-55 percent). The changes in the borneol contents, although on lower level, were similar to that of the eucalyptol (2-20 percent)
