Data to copper, zinc and manganese supply of horses (1st Paper)

Few equine ailments elicit as much concern and anxiety as developmental orthopaedical diseases like osteochondritis, epiphysitis, flexular deformities, etc., an all too familiar constellation of tendon and bone growth disorders in young, growing horses. In some important horse breeding areas, flexular deformities present considerable problems. We know that those areas lack copper. Our study analysed horse mane hair samples using the atomic absorption spectrophotometer of Szilvasvarad, Enying, Kertesko and Lipizza, to establish the trace element status of these horses. Having analysed the hair, they obtained the following results: in those studied farms where flexural deformities were the main problems, the copper status was low, but on the control farms it was normal, without any developmental orthopaedical problems incurred
