Community structure of the macrozoobenthos in the stream reach of the river Mahakam around Samarinda, East Kalimantan (Indonesia)

Analyses of macrozoobenthos distribution collected along 25 km upstream and downstream of the river Mahakam around Samarinda showed that the Environmental Constant of Motomura (m) varied from 0.21 to 0.68. The values of diversity and evenness indices ranged from 0.43 to 1.60 and from 0.25 of 0.82, respectively. Furthermore, analyses on community structure of the macrozoobenthos revealed that the reach of the Mahakam river surveyed was moderately polluted by either timber industrial waste product or domestic sewage effluent
Show more [+] Less [-]Indonesian. Hasil penelitian lingkungan perairan Sungai Mahakam di sekitar kota Samarinda Kalimantan Timur, menunjukkan adanya kecendrungan penurunan mutu. Penurunan mutu perairan tersebut disebabkan oleh berbagai limbah industri dan pemukimam yang memadati daerah tepian sungai. Limbah tersebut telah mengganggu kehidupan komunitas makrozoobenthos, seperti yang ditunjukkan oleh kisaran nilai H' (antara 0,430-1,603), nilai E (antara 0,251-0,824) dan nilai m (antara 0,210-0,676), serta pola distribusi kelimpahan organisme yang mengikuti model log-normal (model Preston)
