To study the effect of soil depth above the gypsiferous layer on the growth and yield of potato, a field experiment was conducted in Ana region in spring and autumn seasons of 1992. Four soil depths were used i.e. 20, 40, 60 and 80 cm which forms the main plot and three varieties of potatoes i.e. cardenal, lola and dimont as subplots with four replications in a split plot arrangement in a RCBD design. After two months from planting the length and number of stems were recorded. At maturity, plants were harvested and yield as well as the total number of tubers, number of large tubers (35 mm), the medium ones (20-35 mm), and the small tubers (10-20 mm) were recorded.
