Some biological and ecological aspects of rice stem borer (Chilo suppressalis) in Mazandaran province

This insect has 2-3 generations per year. It overwinters as full- grown larvae in the remained stalks of rice in the harvested fields and the vegetation covering the borders of the rice plots. So far, we have found some 22 plant species sheltering the hibernating larvae. Ploughing the harvested fields including all the boundaries would reduce greatly the number of remained larvae in the fields and consequently there would be a very significant reduction of damage
