[Growth and osmoregulation in cell suspension of Chenopodium quinoa with different concentrations of NaCl]

English. This investigation evaluated the degree of osmoregulation and its relation to growth in cell suspensions of quinua (Chenopodium quinua Will.) in media with different concentrations of NaCl. Treatments consisted of the addition of 0, 68, 136 and 204 mM (0, 0.4, 0.8 and 1.2) of NaCl to the culture media. Growth was evaluated by fresh and dry weight; mater and osmotic potentials of the cells and the culture media; cellular concentrations of sodium, potasium, calcium and magnesium. Measurements were made every three days for 24 days. Quinoa cells displayed osmoregulation especially in the treatment with 68 mM NaCl. Osmoregulation occurred at the cellular level and was greatest in the first three days after inoculating, mainly due to accumulation of sodium ions.

Se evaluo el grado de osmorregulacion y su relacion con el crecimiento de celulas en suspension de quinua (Chenopodium quinoa Will.) sometidas a diferentes concentraciones de NaCI. Los tratamientos consistieron en la adicion de 0, 68, 136 y 204 mM (0, 0.4, 0.8 y 1.2) de NaCI al medio de cultivo. Se evaluo el crecimiento en funcion del peso fresco y peso seco; los potenciales hidrico y osmotico celulares y del medio de cultivo; la concentracion celular de Na, K, Ca y Mg. Estas mediciones se realizaron cada tres dias durante un periodo de 24. Se concluye que hubo una considerable osmorregulacion en quinua sobre todo en el tratamiento de 68 mM de NaCI. La osmorregulacion opero a nivel celular y ocurrio con mayor magnitud entre 0 y 3 dias despues de la siembra, atribuyendose en gran medida a una acumulacion de sodio.
