English. Clonal and reproductive recruitment of mezcal agave in a wild population was studied in the San Luis Potosi highlands. Reproduction was absent. Clonal recruitment was abundant but having a high mortality in the young offshoots. This may affect the species permanence on its natural habitat.

Los resultados indican abundancia de multiplicacion y ausencia de reproduccion. Las plantas clonales con alta mortalidad en las primeras etapas de desarrollo. Tales circunstancias pudieran afectar a la larga la permanencia de esta especie en su habitat natural.
