[Water volume/per corn plant]

English. This study was undertaken with the objetive of improving the water harvesting in situ, in corn. The experiment was conducted at Tecamac, Mex. in 1988 an haplustolls. Three variables of study were considered: (1) microbasin area or distance between rows (0.85, 1.10, 1.45 y 1.90m); (2) Water volume per plant (50, 125 and 100 I), and 3) mulch cover of straw barley (0, 0.25 and 0.5 kg/m2). A complete factorial arrangement of 3 x 4 with 4 repetitions was used. The amount of water harvested enhanced when the distance between furrows increased. Any variable of study affected the moisture soil content. The distance between rows (TM) and water volume per plant (V) was significantly affected, in simple and interactive form, the maximum yield estimated mathematically through a response function was obtained with 0.94 m of TM and with 46.17 I of V. The best economical treatment under capital restrictions and high risk, correponds to at 1.45 m of TM and 200 I of V; under unlimited capital, 0.98 m of TM and 62.5 I of V was the optimum treatment.

Spanish; Castilian. El estudio se realizo con el objeto de optimizar la captacion in situ del agua de lluvia, en maiz en 1988, en una haplustolls en Tecamac, Mex. Se evaluaron, en un factorial completo 3x4 con cuatro repeticiones; tres variables tamano de microcuenca o separacion de hileras con surcos modificados (0.85, 1.10, 1.45 y 1.90 m), volumen de agua estimado a captar por planta (50, 125 y 200 l) y cobertura organica de paja de cebada en el area de siembra (0, 0.25 y 0.5 kg/m2). El escurrimiento en las microcuencas de 1.10, 1.45 y 1.90 m produjo, respectivamente, 178, 124 y 129 mm de agua adicionales en el area de siembra. Ninguno de los factores de estudio afecto significativamente la humedad del suelo. El tamano de microcuencas (TM) y volumen de agua por planta (V) afectaron en forma simple e interactiva el rendimiento de grano. EL maximo rendimiento estimado matematicamente a traves de una funcion de respuesta se obtuvo con un TM de 0.94 m y un V de 46.17 1. El tratamiento optimo economico bajo restricciones de capital y presencia de riesgo correspondio a un TM de 1.45 m y un V de 200 1; para capital ilimitado un TM de 0.89 m y 62.5 1 de agua por planta.
