This paper considers extension and farmer adoption and adaptation of hedgerow intercropping in the Philippine uplands. The first section of this paper describes the SALT [Sloping Agricultural Land Technology] package and its utilization in upland development. Reasons for its widespread use are considered. Farmer adoption and adaptation of the package are described in the next section. The implications of adoption and adaptation are considered in terms of resource conservation, annual crop production and income generation. The applicability of the system to the Philippine uplands is discussed and conclusions regarding the relevance of hedgerow intercropping in the Philippine uplands are drawn
