Protein content heritability in selection of barley basing on intraplant variation in kernel anatomical structure

Macewicz, J.B. (Instytut Hodowli i Aklimatyzacji Roslin, Radzikow (Poland). Zaklad Genetyki)
The objective of this study was the verification of the hypothesis assuming genetic determination of grain protein content stored in the subaleurone tissue, beyond the aleurone layer and embryo. This specific tissue occurs only in a fraction of kernels set on single plant and causes differences in grain protein content. The effectiveness of the selection supports the hypothesis on the heterogenity of the initial cultivar population and on the genetic determination of the subaleurone tissue size in individual plant kernels
