Heavy metals in soils of the Bydgoszcz city

The presented paper relates to the investigations on the content of heavy metals in the upper layer of soils (5-10 cm and 30-40 cm) from the area of the Bydgoszcz city. Soil samples were taken from the whole area of the city. The total Pb, Cd, Ni, Cr, Zn and Cu contents were determined with the AAS technique in solutions obtained after digestion of soil with HF and HCl04. On the basis of the results obtained, maps ilustrating the content of heavy metals in the soils of the Bydgoszcz city were plotted. Soils investigated are unequally contaminated with heavy metals. The highest content of these elements were in the soils of the central city district and eastern, western, and south eastern part of the city, strongly urbanized and industralized
