In 3-year field experiment the effect of multicomponent NPK and NPKMg fertilizers on onion yield and contents of nitrates and total N was studied. NPKMg and crystalline NPK fertilizers increased total N content in onion. New granular NPK and NPKMg fertilizers significantly reduced nitrate content in comparison to fertilizing with superphosphate + potassium sulphate + magnesium sulphate or superphosphate + potassium sulphate. The lowest nitrate level in the total N was observed in onion fertilized with granular NPKMg and NPK what may suggest good N utilization by the plant
