Penetration of fluvalinate from home-made, pesticide-soaked wooden laths into wax, propolis, honey and bee bodies was investigated. Absorption of fluvalinate vapour by wax was also measured in laboratory conditions. It was found that contamination of bee bodies is related to the frequency of their contact with the source of fluvalinate rather than to their physiological age. Wax is not contaminated during production in bee bodies, but after secretion. Laboratory experiments show that despite low partial pressure, fluvalinate vapour is efficiently absorbed by wax (up to 0.3 ppm), but in hive conditions this process is about ten times less intensive, propably due to intensive ventilation
