The changes in ruderal grassland after non-tillage reseeding with orchard grass

The reseeding of Dactylis glomerata in mixture with Trifolium repens into a eutrophisated stand of ruderal grassland was investigated at an altitude of 600 m above sea level over 1988-1991. Portion of botanical group of grasses, which is competitively very strong, increased after reseeding. On the other hand, a radical reduction of legumes was observed, which, together with original species of degraded sward Poa trivialis, ensured thickening of grass sod and protection against Rumex obtusifolius seed germination from soil supply. Dactylis glomerata formed the largest part of the DM yield by taking up a high amount of the nutrients, causing a change of soil conditions. At the same time the content of humus decreased and eutrophic nutritious regime of soil changed to mesotrophic. The nutrient level in above-ground phytomass was also influenced. Wide tetanic ratio and K:Na ratio were improper during the whole period of research. Feeding value of reseeded grassland increased twice compared with the variant without reseeding. Fiber and nitrate content did not exceed upper limit and sugar concentration was low
