Mapping of forest environment load by selected elements through leaf analyses

In 1990 the entire territory of Slovakia was mapped. Pollution deposition types (PDT) which characterize the changing ecological conditions in forests were distinguished. The three main PDT are - acid, alcaline and ammonia, and there are 8 sub-types. In Slovakia (1768 thousand ha of forest soil stand) acid PDT with fly-ash represents 91.7 %, acid PDT with fly-ash and fluorine and chlorine compounds represents 1.2 %, acid PDT with smelter dust represents 2.5 % and acid pollution deposition type with organic matter represents 3.1 %. Alkaline pollution deposition type represents 1.2 %, that of magnesite pollution deposition type 0.7 % and cement PDT 0.5 %. Finally ammonia pollution deposition type represents 0.3 %. Data on the mosses and forest tree species loading, as well as published data, given in the reference survey, were used for distinguishing pollution the deposition types. These will be defined more precisely on the basis of geological and ecological mapping of Slovakia, since determining the content of Al, Be, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Li, Mg, Mn, N, Na, Ni, Pb, Rb, S, Sr, V, and Zn in forest tree species and mosses has been on-going here since 1991. The basic data on the distribution of ecologically and bearing- significant elements in forest tree species assimilative organs in central Slovakia are presented and measured against the limit values
