Evaluation of basic selection of the vine variety Aurelius

Basic selection of the vine variety Aurelius on the Agricultural Cooperative Strekov (Slovakia) was carried out in 1991-1993. 70 selected parent vines were evaluated from the view of soil fertility, grape quality as well as vegetation characterization. A sufficient range for selection of suitable biotypes was expressed and the argumentation for a selective choice could be confirmed. The fertility of the best 25 parent vines varied from 5.0 to 6.7 kg per vine, sugar content of grape must from 19.3 to 25.1 kg per hl, the acidity from 8.06 to 10.31 g per liter and sensory valuation of wine samples from 17.99 to 18.40 points. Vine properties will be reconsidered and examined in clone populations.
