Faunistic and ecological notes on Xiphinema (Nematoda: Dorylaimida) in Slovakia

Xiphinema species geographical distribution over Slovakia was the object of research from 1991 to 1993. Seven different species were found to make up the rhizosphere of various plants and trees. They were: X. brevicolle, X. dentatum, X. diversicaudatum, X. italiae, X. pachtaicum, X. simile and X. vuittenezi. X. diversicaudatum and X. italiae are recognized to be vectors of plant viruses. A comprehensive Xiphinema species distribution survey is hereby presented as well as some additional data regarding morphological and morphometric characteristics, a simple identification key, soil and climatic characteristics and a survey of host plants.
