Agronomic contribution to the price setting of calibrated maize seed
1996
Mazur, M. (Planta s.r.o., Trnava (Slovakia))
The sorting of maize seed into quality fractions caused an increase in seed price over the original price of non-calibrated seed. The seed of eight corn maize varieties was sorted into six calibres according to three sizes and two forms (round, flat) of kernel. The economic efficiency of the seed lots was evaluated agronomically, by yield, by thousand seed weight, and by germination. Price differentiation ranged from 81 % to 116 % of the original non-calibrated seed. The agronomically most valuable fraction from the point of view of cost and efficiency turns out to be the middle-sized and flat kernel
