Chemical composition and nutritive value of feed varieties of rapeseed

Nutrient content in the pre-sprout stage of the feed varieties of rapeseed (Kentan, Tantal, Akela) and turnip (Tyfon) was determined. The coefficients of the apparent digestibility were measured in the Merino wethers using a balance trial. Results showed that rapeseed at this maturity stage is a high-quality and easily digestible feed. Dehydrated rapeseed (Akela) has a high biological value of protein (64 % of amino acids in crude protein, 11.75 % of lysine in total amino acids) and a higher level of fermentable sugars (15 % of water soluble sugars, 5 % of starch and fructose) in comparison with other protein feeds. Dehydrated rapeseed is a substantial source of beta-carotene (168 mg per kg) and Ca and P, at the ratio of 2.26:1. The high OM in vitro digestibility (76.1 %) is influenced by hemicelluloses, crude fibre, lignin, total VFA, and water soluble sugars.
