Agro-ecological factor effect on alfalfa forage quality

Alfalfa quality at first cut was observed in the following pilot regions: Gbely (Haplic Chernozem), Kocin (Pseudogleyic Luvisol), Lovinobana (Cambisol), Nemsova (Albogleyic Luvisol), Risnovce (Cernozemic Luvisol). Dry matter, nitrogen substances, fibre, potassium, calcium, magnesium and nitrates were monitored. Results were evaluated by comparison with valid standards and in relationship to nutrition conditions (total nitrogen, available phosphorus and potassium in soil). Obtained mean values, in soil and hydro-meteorological data are expressed graphically. Differences in alfalfa forage quality in the pilot regions result from some differentiation in phosphate and potassium nutrition, at lower total nitrogen content in soil. They were affected by hydro-meteorological conditions during the vegetative period and by harvest conditions. Nitrogen substances content and fibre have a relation to dry matter production. Tetanus factor values were mostly at the limit due to higher potassium content in alfalfa. All the quality signs, both nutritional and hygienical, have their dynamic. Continuous monitoring is a quarantee of a higher quality product.
