After a long period of take off, followed by ups and downs, and a short time of flourishing, the cocoa cultivation in Suriname ultimately declined when it fell prey to the witches' broom disease. Lack of capital and information, and insufficient professional skills were also responsible for this decline. The cocoa production in the interior of our country might have a better chance since the genetic pool has been found there and not in the coastal area where the cultivation has traditionally been based. With the processing of cocoa beans locally, profits will probably be higher in our cocoa sector
