Distribution of plant parasitic nematodes in Ang-Khang area and their control

Survey of several planting fields in Ang-khang area was conducted in October 1988. Two hundred and eighty-six soil samples collected from plant rhizospheres were extracted for plant parasitic nematodes. Nematodes processed were counted and identifield. Nematodes of following genera: Aphelenchoides, Aphelenchus, Criconemella, Ditylenchus, Helicotylenchus, Meloidogyne, Paratylenchus, Pratylenchus, Scutellonema, Trichodorus, Tylenchus, Xiphinema and free living nematodes were found in 0.6, 2.3, 0.2, 0.17, 28.5, 19.6, 0.3, 0.8, 1.0, 9.2, 0.03 and 37.0 per cent respectively. Population densities varied with the localities and host plants. A test on efficacy of different nematicides: carbofuran, dazomet, isazophos, oxamyl and an antagonistic fungus Paecilomyces lilacinus was conducted to control root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita at rates of 3 grams (carbofuran 5 %), 2.5 grams (dazomet 98 %), 1 gram (isazophos 25 %), 0.78 milliliter (oxamyl 24 %) and 4 grams (fungus inoculum on sterile sorghum seeds) in brassica, broccoli, chrysanthemum and radicchio. Result revealed that the chemicals and the antagonistic soil-borne fungus could be used for control of M. incognita to some extents. Host efficiency of several plants in Ang-khang area such as weeds, herbal plants, vegetables and field crops was investigated in October, 1992 in black plastic bags. Forty-two species of plants were grown in soil infected with 10 root galls of M. incognita. Results showed all of 42 plant species could be hosts of the nematode (M. incognita).
