Caseous lymphadenitis in goats in the Southern part of Thailand

Caseous lymphadenitis (Pseudotuberculosis) was first outbroken in a flock of goats in the southern part of Thailand in 1984. The 50 %-100 % Angle-Nubian breed goats were infected. The bacterial cause, Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis (C. ovis) was isolated and identification. The morbidily rate was 35.18 % (57/162) and the mortality rate was low. The agar gel immunodiffusion test was applied to test against exotoxin of C ovis on goats sera. The positive rate was 32.09 % (52/162) and 3.09 % (5/162) in male and female goats, respectively. The infected goats aged vary from 9 months to 5 years. The goats under 9 months were scronegative. The abscesses of caseous lymphadenited were found on parotid, mandibular, cervical, prescapular, prefemoral, subcutaneous, mesentive and bronchial lymph nodes. Lung, liver and spleen were also found the abscesses-The measurement of eradication and control of disease were separated the goats with clinical signs of abscesses on superficial lymph nodes and slaughtered. The sero-postive to exotoxin of C. ovis ever separated and killed. The outbreak of disease stopped. The possible cause of the disease may be come from imported Anglo-Nubian goats with Caseous lymphadenitis.
