Field experiments at Lampang (Typic Tropaqualfs; fine-silty mixed) and Lamphun (Aeric Tropaqualfs; fine-silty mixed) provinces were conducted to study the response of peanut, Tainan 9 cultivar, to phosphate fertilizer and lime application in the year 1984 1985 and 1986. The rates of phosphate fertilizer applied as triple superphosphate were 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 kg P2O5 per rai whereas the lime rates were 0 and 200 kg Ca(OH)2 per rai. The characteristics of the soils were loam to sandy loam texture, available phosphorus (Bray II) 4 and 7 ppm P respectively. Significant response of peanut to phosphate fertilizer was observed in case that when available P was as low as 4 ppm. The optimum rate of phosphate application in such case was 3 kg P2O5 per rai. Peanut had no response to lime application.
