1988
Panom Sodsuk (National Inland Fisheries Institute, Bangkok (Thailand))
There are 9 species of the genus Cirrhinus, C. microlepis, C. lineatus, C. jullieni, C. caudiguttatus, C. caudimaculatus, C. siamensis, C. chinensis, C. macrosemion and C. mrigala, inhabiting in Thailand. Most of them which were mistakenly described, especially by Fowler (1934 and 1935), as the genus Tylognathus, Osteochilus and Crossocheilus should be considered as Cirrhinus with regard to many distinguished characters of the mouth region particulary to the undeveloped pad and distinctive symphysial knob at the lower jaw. C. siamensis has many synonymous scientific names. The two introduced species, ever been reported, are C. chinensis from China and C. mrigala from India.
