Fungal protein enrichment of cassava by solid state fermentation and its use as fish feed
1989
Yogarajah, V. Jasothini
Produce enriched cassava by using a simple technology and use the product as a fish feed. Two different fermentation period with and without sulfuric acid treatments were designed to find the favorable end product of enriched cassava. Five diets were formulated varying in the content of enriched cassava, fish meal and soybean meal to evaluate enriched cassava as a feed for Orechromis niloticus. A feeding trial was conducted in a recirculating water system for 56 days. It showed 42 hrs fermentation period without sulfuric acid resulted in a favorable end product of enriched cassava when compared to end product of treated sulfuric acid with 64 hrs fermentation period. End product of 42 hrs fermentation resulted is no significant difference in feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio with control. It is possible to replace soybean meal by 25 % of enriched cassava and fish meal may not be necessary if enriched cassava used as a protein source with other plant protein sources.
