Allergy studies in dogs through skin reactions

The interdermal skin test was applied in 17 dogs sensitive to different allergens. Dogs which live in flats are much more sensitive to inhalatory allergens present in closed spaces (house dust, cigarette smoke, bed sheets, blankets), than to allergens from the outside environment (a mixture of pollen of different grasses and trees). Food can also cause the sensitive organism to react to allergens (beef, pork or fish meat), while eggs and milk are seldom given to adult dogs, so that it is more difficult to sensitize animals to these allergens. Long-haired dogs are more frequently sensitive than short-haired ones. It is also important to know that German sheepdogs and chow chows are most sensitive of all examined breeds. Dogs were most often sensitive to house dust, dermatophagoides, sheets, and beef and pork (50).
