In field experiments the effect of four lucerne varieties on yield structure of stands from undersowing in three maize hybrids and sowings without nurse crop has been studied. The varieties affected number of plants and stems, bulk density of stand, main root thickness, length of tillering zone and dry matter yield. Undersowing residue had effect on length of tillering zone, main root thickness and on dry matter yield. Interaction of variety with undersowing residue was significant in dry matter yield. Height and bulk density of stand directly participated in the yield performance.
