The Czech Republic has excellent information bases dealing with historical land use (maps, figures). This information was used by special methodology prepared by the Department of Social Geography (Faculty of Sciences, Charles University). Land use changes are used there as an expression of interaction between nature and society. Investigation based on more than 10,000 basic territorial units was finished by the end of 1997.
