Maximum feeding of red clover silage to dairy cows
1997
Tamm, U. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia))
The content of dry matter (DM) of used silages was different and depended on the technology of ensiling. Generally all silages were well preserved according to the analyses. There were no registered remarkable differences in chemical parameters or in amount of microorganisms between the used silages. Although the quality of the haylage was the best. The high voluntary intake of high-grade silages resulted in the production of 24.2...25.3 kg of FCM yield per day during the experimental period. The average of the consumed silage DM was 15.5 kg per day and formed approximately 2.7 per cent of cows live weight. The significant correlations between the used silages and milk production were not found. There were also no differences between the milk fat and protein content and amount of microorganisms in milk produced with different silages. However, the content of carbamide in milk was lightly higher in the case of silages including more crude protein
