The influence of fertilizers on soil nitrogen load and on the potato yield

The effect of fertilizers on the potato 'Ants' and on the soil was studied in a long-term field experiment beginning in 1989. In the experiment five different norms of nitrogen were used with different organic manures. As the results showed, fertilization increased both the yield and the nitrogen content of the potato. The nitrogen balance in the soil depended strongly on fertilization. Without organic manure it was mainly negative. When using pig slurry and straw, the balance was strongly positive and this may damage the environment
