Main characteristics of Hungarian food industry in the nineties

In spite of a decrease in both production and sales, the rate of food industry within the entire Hungarian industry has increased in recent years. During the previous years, the number of food processing organizations has rapidly increased. A process in two directions has taken place in food industry: along with an increase in number of food processing organizations, less and less enterprises produce a more significant part of returns from sales. In the field of food processing, the number of joint ventures owning also foreign capital has considerably risen. In 1994, their share was: in number 19.8 percent, in total own capital of all food processing organizations 63.1 percent, in the value of assets invested 63 percent, in net returns from sales 51.4 percent, in enterprising profits and losses 69.4 and 51.9 percent, respectively.
