As no appropriate data concerning improved lateral shoot formation of 'Idared' was available in the literature, in 1993 began a study serial on the effect of BA application on lateral shoot formation. This paper presents the results of trials with the aim to find the proper concentration, treatment period and frequency. BA was applicated in water soluble formulation Paturyl 10 WSC containing 10 percent of BA. The treatments were applied to one-year-old 'Idared' trees bulbbed on 'Malling 26' rootstock. The following treatment combinations were applied: treatment No. 1: untreated control, treatment No. 2: 0.02 percent BA sprayed 3 times in June by 4 days, within 8 days treatment period, treatment No. 3: 0.02 percent BA sprayed 3 times in June by 8-9 days, within 18 days treatment period, treatment No. 4: 0.04 percent BA sprayed 3 times in June by 4 days within 8 days treatment period, treatment No. 5: 0.04 percent BA sprayed 3 times in June by 8-9 days within 18 days treatment period, treatment No. 6: 0.02 percent BA sprayed 6 times in June by 4-5 days within 18 days treatment period. Length and the number and quality of lateral shoots were measured and evaluated at the end of September 1995
