The relationship between number of days to tasseling, morphological characteristics, dry stalk mass, yield components and extent of lodging were studied in maize using the genotypes of an 8x8 complete diallel cross over two years at two plant densities (approx. 65.000 and 110.000 plants/ha). Two derived parameters were also introduced: the rate of fertilisation, as the ratio between the number of flowers and kernels per row, and the difference between the thousand kernel masses in the upper and lower half of the ear
