Dissipation of diazinon residues in orange leaf and fruit

Thin layer chromatography was used to determine residues of diazinon and to identify its degradation products in the leaves and fruits of orange. This was carried out during a period of 40 days and at certain intervals of time after spraying. The results revealed that the residues of diazinon in the fruit peel were 3.9 ppm immediately after spraying and 2.5 ppm after 24 hrs., then declined gradually to 0.9 ppm, and 0.12 ppm after 7 and 40 days respectively. However, when the pulp was taken, the residues were nonexistent at any detectable concentration. Also when leaves were taken into consideration high residues were found as these were 1.5 ppm after 1 week from spraying then declined to 0.1 ppm after 28 days.
